A silver, and glass bon bon basket or sugar box probably based in copper or britannia, repousse motif raised decoration, feathered edge, hall-marked on the reverse; crescent, "P" within a shield, "AS" or "RS" within a shield and an "A", hinge is marked Antrobus Patent 24, raised on 4 ball feet, 7" diameter, 6 1/2" height, offered for sale in the 1850's. This little handled English bowl was quite popular on the tables of the last century, this one is made of plated silver and glass with a hinged cover, and bail. This is a bon bon bowl and it was customarily used on tables to hold bon bons, mints, salted nuts, and other small confections candies in the home. Great piece with original patina! |
