This is a lovely Pickard china plate entitled "Child in White" by Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French Impressionist 1841-1919). It is a limited edition plate made in 1978 of just 5000 and is the 2nd plate of 6 in "The Children of Renoir" collection. It measures approx. 8 1/4 inches in diameter with a rich border of 23 karat gold, hand painted over delicate embossing. This plate comes new in box with papers and is in excellent condition, never having been used or displayed. For your interest, the original painting "CHILD IN WHITE" hangs in the Chicago Art Institute. Painted in 1883, CHILD IN WHITE is believed to be the portrait of Lucie Berard, the daughter of an early patron of Renoir. |
